Brilliant connection between market discipline and legal strategy. The parallel between waiting for the right fill price and not rushing plea negotations before discovery really landed for me. I saw this firsthand when a buddy's lawyer jumped too early on a deal that probaly would've been way better if they'd just waited for the toxicology report to come back. The restraint piece is what most people dont get until they've already burned themselves a few times.

Getting all the discovery is one of the most important things, I've found. It nearly always changes the picture. This is closely followed by doing a defense investigation. A lot of attorneys either skip this part, or wait until they're sure that they're going to trial. (But, really, too many don't do it even then.) I've never understood that. Police reports do NOT always reveal the truth. Police investigations often rely on jumping to conclusions and then just trying to prove that the conclusion was right. A defense investigation will often show this.
