The zero-click search experience Google (GOOG) is pushing really does change the game for content creators. When Alphabet's AI Overviews become the end destination rather than a pathway to sources, it fundamentally undermines the web ecosystem that made Google powerful in the first place. It's one thing to organize information, but extracting value while bypassing the original creators is a totally diferent story.
Yep. I think eventually it's just going to end up hurting everyone. Not just us small business people. I mean, what reason is there to keep putting out information no one will come to see only so Google can rehash it and serve it up warped? That's why I quit (for the most part) bothering to develop my blog and I'm writing here, instead.
Oh, well. I guess I'm just hosed. After almost 20 years, I don't think I've ever had a "peer rating" anywhere. I have a lot of endorsements on Avvo from colleagues and a few on Google and other places. At this stage in my career, I'm just going to look into winding down, I think.
But, as I think I said in one of the sections, "It's not all about me". The post covers more than the marketing issues.

This is why all the blogging was laid out as the path to a successful practice and high ratings. In the end, there’s no substitute for peer ratings.

No. Not all about you. It just looks like they knew it was coming and they temporarily incentivized lawyers to contribute content.
